Mini Biography
Harmon Oscar Nelson Jr. was a musician most widely known to be the legendary motivation for Bette Davis’ stated nicknaming from the Academy Honor statuette “Oscar,” even though story likely is usually apocryphal mainly because his nickname was “Ham.” Davis’ senior high school sweetheart, Ham (or “Oscar”) Harmon wedded Bette on August 18, 1932. They divorced seven years later on. He was among four ex-husbands of Davis, most of whom were gentiles. Davis friend Joan Blondell, after that wedded to Mike Todd, a Jew, nicknamed them “The Four Skins.”
