Mini Biography

“Delta blues” musician David “Honeyboy”–a nickname his sister provided him being a child–Edwards was created in Shaw, MS, in 1915. He trained himself to try out the guitar like a son by hearing such bluesmen as Tommy McClennan and Robert Petway. By age group 14 he was playing in “juke bones” in the South with such performers as Big Joe Williams and Yank Rachell. He made several recordings for the Collection of Congress sin 1942, but didn’t start to record commercially until 1951, when he recorded for the American Saving Co. mainly because “Mr. Honey”. 2 yrs later he journeyed to Chicago to record four tracks for Chess Information, but only 1 of these, “Drop Down Mama”, was ever released, which wasn’t until 1970. Edwards, nevertheless, continuing to tour and play clubs–and, when required, on road corners–in Chicago, and would sometimes play the South. In the 1960s he started his recording profession again, this time around with Adelphi/Blue Horizon, and in addition began to play blues celebrations. In the 1970s and 1980s he toured European countries and Japan. He died of center failing in Chicago in 2011.
