After completing his education in the University or college of Pa, Hugh McCollum relocated to LA and worked a number of odd jobs before being hired as an assistant for an executive initially National Photos. He later offered like a business supervisor for a number of studios, and in 1929 became a member of Columbia Photos as secretary to studio room main Harry Cohn. McCollum was advertised to assistant towards the studio room creation main, and in 1934 became business supervisor of Columbia’s brief subjects department. In 1937 he was raised to executive maker of the division, a posture he distributed to Jules White colored. Although McCollum’s responsibilities tended even more toward the business enterprise end from the department compared to the creation end, he do in fact individually produce several humor shorts, and also directed a few, including many entries within the Three Stooges series. In 1952 he remaining Columbia to become listed on Gene Autry’s Soaring A Productions as its creation supervisor. He held that placement until his pension.
