While attending LA City College, worked like a karate instructor for Hapkido grandmaster, Sea Oh Choi. Qualified with fellow college students and potential karate experts Clifford Stewart, Russell R. McFadden, and Jerry Smith. Hugh also qualified under grandmaster Ed Parker’s Kenpo Karate program ahead of his immersion in to the Hapkido fighting program. Inspired from the past due Bruce Lee’s personality of Kato in it series, The Green Hornet, Hugh would frequently be spotted having his edition of tossing darts. Was among the founding associates of the Dark Karate Association (BKF) beneath the initial leader, Steve Muhammad. Helped in training upcoming BKF fighting champions Sammy Speed and Gary “The Rabbit” Goodman.
