Mini Biography

Vivacious, uncommonly gorgeous Hyacinth Hazel O’Higgins (aka Hazell) was a star entertainer of English revues and musical theatre. Known as ‘Britain’s response to Betty Grable’, she was referred to as having ‘the longest hip and legs in display business’. She was also blessed with a fantastic singing tone of voice and apparently boundless energy. Educated at Mountview,Streatham and privately tutored for performing by Miss E.C. Massey and Mrs Grandison-Clark, she started her stage profession as a teenager inside a 1937 Western End chorus type of “ON YOUR OWN Toes” in the Palace Theater. During the battle years, she performed her part interesting British soldiers, touring the center East, Italy and Austria as an associate of E.N.S.A.. At her maximum in the 1950’s and 60’s, she offered critically acclaimed shows in a multitude of functions, including “Pygmalion” (1951, as Eliza), “The Beggar’s Opera” (as Polly Peachum, 1968) and “Fiddler on the top” (as Golde, 1969). She actually had her way of measuring international success using the salacious function of ‘Mrs. Squeezum’ in the time romp “SECURE Your Daughters” (1959). She enacted this component in a lot more than 2000 shows in Britain and Australia more than a three-year period. Perhaps her best personality was that of Dixie Collins, an ageing ‘provides been’ celeb in “Expresso Bongo”. She performed Collins in both original stage edition of Wolf Mankowitz’s 1958 play, and in just a little noticed TV movie produced the same season (however, not in the cinematic edition, where the function visited Yolande Donlan). Unaccountably, despite her flexibility as an entertainer, her appears and effervescent character, she never increased to any great levels in movies. Sadder still, was her untimely loss of life (aged somewhere within 48 and 50, resources vary), choking to loss of life within a cafe in Westminster, London, on a bit of steak. At that time she was performing the component of ‘Goldie’ within a West End creation of ‘Fiddler for the Roof’
