Jack port Prince, whose delivery name was John Upchurch, was been trained in singing young. Prince appeared on Broadway in the 1950s in primary and understudy/alternative tasks in at least three musicals: “Men and Dolls” (1950-1953), as “Nicely Nicely Johnson”, “Lil’ Abner” (1956-1958) as “Marryin’ Sam”, and “Destry Trips Again” (1959-1960) as Tom Destry’s sidekick “Clean”. It had been in “Destry”, where Prince sang two tracks, that he made the acquaintance of Andy Griffith, who had the name part (and who earned a Tony nomination for his efficiency). When “The Andy Griffith Display” began on Television in the first 1960’s, Griffith asked Prince to surface in a few shows. Prince, who initial made an appearance in two minimal assignments on the present, was best-known, and it is best-remembered today, for his function of Rafe Hollister”. Griffith wished Prince to truly have a bigger function in the series, but Prince dropped, feeling that it could take him from what was a successful singing profession. Prince continued to execute in the theater and function the nightclub circuit. Very little are available about him through the 1970s and 1980s. His last known appearance was on TNN’s “Nashville Today!” in Sept of 1991, that was a reunion of several of “The Andy Griffith Display” cast associates. Prince received a standing up ovation for both tracks he sang. Prince is interred in Hillside Memorial Recreation area in Redlands, California.
