In June, 1905, a far-sighted showman, John P. Harris, solved to test something fresh in entertainment. Movies were nothing fresh obviously – Harris got shown them in another of his theatres as soon as 1897, but just as an extra appeal for vaudeville and repertory businesses. Realising that there is a growing open public interest in the brand new medium, however, he took over and re-modelled a little shop in McKeesport, Pa, hung a muslin sheet using one wall structure and setup 96 seats and a box-office.
