After their studies at both the College of Applied Artwork as well as the Royal Academy of Artwork in Germany, Kurt Schwitters attempted abstract and expressionist painting before becoming associated with the Dada movement, an artistic philosophy based mainly on incongruity, absurdism, and non-sense. Although he from the Dadaists and his functions shared many commonalities to theirs, Schwitters favored to make reference to his personal artistic efforts beneath the different name “Merz”–a meaningless term Schwitters derived by firmly taking the center syllable from your German term “kommerzbank” (“industrial standard bank”).
