Mayuran Tiruchelvam is a screenwriter and manufacturer of narrative and documentary tales. His feature screenwriting and producing debut, THE LADY is in big trouble, executive made by Spike Lee and directed by and co-written with Julius Onah, was an array of the Tribeca Film Festival’s All Gain access to plan, and released by eOne in 2015. With producing partner Gerry Kim, Mayuran produced TO BECOME Takei – a portrait of actor, activist and pop-culture maverick George Takei – which premiered on the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Along with Director Jamie Sisley, Mayuran was a fellow in Film Independent’s Documentary Lab for Farewell, Ferris Steering wheel – an study of the fading American carnival industry and its own reliance in guest worker visas – that was funded by Latino Community Broadcasting and ITVS. Mayuran co-produced separate feature films like the Mend, premiering at SXSW 2014, and Over the Ocean, winner from the market award on the Slamdance film celebration. He received a BA from Wesleyan School and an MFA from Columbia University’s graduate film plan, where he was a fellow in producing, post-production, and tv composing. He received this year’s 2009 Academy of Tv Arts and Sciences’ Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship or grant, the Arthur Krim Memorial Prize for Brilliance in Producing, as well as the Entertainment Partners Greatest Producer Award. He’s a 2014 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow.
