Melbourne Spurr found its way to Hollywood around 1917 and worked for the observed photographer Fred Hartsook taking portraits of the first famous actors. Spurr photographed Mary Pickford while operating in the Hartsook studio room therefore impressed her that she individually helped release his career like a Hollywood family portrait photographer. From the middle 1920s he was among the premier superstar portraitists in the globe. By this time around, though, the main film studios were mandating that their celebrities could just be photographed by their own professional photographers.
