He was raised in Versailles with a family group who was extremely influenced by pop music. When he was youthful, Gondry wished to be considered a painter or an inventor. In the 80s he joined in an artwork college in Paris where he could develop his visual abilities and where he also fulfilled close friends with whom he produced a pop-rock music group known as Oui-Oui. The music group released 2 albums (‘Chacun tout le monde’ and ‘Formidable’) and many singles until their parting in 1992. Gondry was the drummer from the band and in addition directed their videos in which it had been possible to find out his strange globe, influenced from the 60s and by his child years. One of is own videos was demonstrated on MTV so when Björk noticed it, she asked him to create her first single video for ‘Human being Behaviour’. The collaboration is popular: Gondry aimed five various other Björk’s movies, benefiting with the large budgets. This resulted in commissions for various other artists all over the world, including Substantial Strike. He also produced a whole lot of advertisements for Distance, Smirnoff, Atmosphere France, Nike, Coca Cola, Adidas, Polaroid and Levi – the last mentioned making him one of the most highly-awarded movie director to get a one-off commercial. Though it wasn’t a huge hit, this film allowed him to immediate Eternal Sunshine from the Spotless Brain (2004), that he once again collaborated with Charlie Kaufman. The film became a favorite 3rd party film and he and his co-writers earned an Oscar for this.
