Mikko Niskanen (1929-1990) was a Finnish film movie director, writer, manufacturer and professional. He began his directing profession in 1962 after learning film producing in Moscow. His initial feature film The Young boys (1962) was a proof his skill and gained him a Jussi Prize for directing. Through the next a year he also aimed films Sissit (1963) – which he earned an Jussi Award for directing also – and Hopeaa rajan takaa (1963). Many of these three movies had been war-themed. Through the next couple of years he proved helpful for TV, but came back to film industry in 1966 along with his film Käpy selän alla (1966). The film became an enormous achievement with 700,000 seat tickets marketed to screenings. The film remains in Finnish film sector as 12th highest grossing Finnish film of the annals. It had been also sold to many different countries. Niskanen earned a Jussi for directing. His next two motion pictures Lapualaismorsian (1967) and Asfalttilampaat (1968) weren’t thus well received, but earned him a Jussi for directing the first one. In early 1970s he aimed Laulu tulipunaisesta kukasta (1971) that was everything but successful. He made his return with 8 Deadly Pictures (1972) that was originally produced for Television. 5-hour film was ultimately cut to just a little over two hours to get a theatrical discharge. The film gained him two Jussis; one for directing, a different one for greatest leading role. Niskanen never really had the same achievement that he previously with Kahdeksan surmanluotia (1972). His various other movies of 1970s didn’t use box office strikes or prize winners. In the 1980s he received his 6th and last Jussi for directing for his film Ajolähtö (1982). After it, he aimed also two movies based on well-known novels; Unämän vonkamies (1986) and Lumberjacking (1988) before his loss of life in 1990.
