American pianist, lyricist and songwriter, chiefly remembered for co-writing the Merrie Melodies theme tune “Merrily We Move Along” (with Charles Tobias and Eddie Cantor). Mencher started his profession in vaudeville and afterwards worked being a pianist and personnel composer for many music publishing homes. From the first 1930’s, he wrote music for McKinney’s Natural cotton Pickers, Jimmie Lunceford and various other jazz rings. He also supplied ratings for such Broadway displays as “Earl Carroll’s Sketch Reserve” (1935) as well as for evening membership revues in NY and Miami. A few of his most widely known compositions, including “Over the Bumpy Street to Appreciate”, “Blooms for Madame”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “You’re the Wish” and “Let’s Golf swing It”, highlighted in Warner Brothers and MGM cartoons from the 1930’s and 40’s.
