Mini Biography

Italian-born Nicholas Musuraca’s initial job in the film business was being a chauffeur to early pioneering producer/director J. Stuart Blackton. Getting a knack for picture taking, he proved helpful behind the surveillance cameras in a number of careers before finally learning to be a cinematographer (or, because they had been called in those times, “light cameraman”). Musuraca spent the majority of his profession at RKO Images, where he became referred to as a professional of lighting–he was once admiringly defined with a fellow cameraman as “a painter with light”–and was generally in charge of the gritty, moody camerawork that became that studio’s personal. He was nominated for an Academy Prize for his focus on I RECALL Mama (1948). After departing RKO in the past due ’50s he proved helpful for a brief period at Warner Bros., but joined up with Desilu Studios and spent the rest of his profession in television.
