Peter Butterworth’s promising profession in the Uk Navy ended when the aircraft where he was journeying was shot straight down from the Germans in WW II and he was put into a POW camp. There he became good friends with Talbot Rothwell (later on a writer within the “KEEP ON” series, which Butterworth frequently worked well) and both began composing and carrying out sketches for camp displays to amuse the prisoners (also to hide the sound of additional prisoners digging get away tunnels). Following the battle Butterworth made a decision to continue his performing career, and quickly became a familiar personality acting professional in both movies and tv. He specific in playing mild, well-meaning but relatively eccentric heroes (which, by most accounts, is exactly what he is at true to life).
