Sam Lucas was an African-American acting professional, comedian, vocalist and songwriter given birth to to free dark parents in 1848. A previous barber, he was once referred to as the “Grand Aged Man from the Negro Stage”. As a young child he showed skill for acoustic guitar and performing. He started like a black-face minstrelsy on riverboats around 1858, later on became a far more severe drama acting professional with functions in ‘The Creole Display’ and ‘A Visit to Coontown’, his most widely known performances is at ‘Out of Bondage’ in 1875 and became the very first acting professional to portray the part of Uncle Tom on stage and later on starred within the film edition of ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ for the Peerless Film Organization in 1914, through the filming he became ill and died 2 yrs down the road January 5, 1916.
