Sé Merry Doyle’s setup Loopline Film in 1993 being a base to create creative documentaries. Sé’s most personal film ‘Alive Alive O – A Requiem for Dublin’ follows the plight of Dublin’s road traders seeing that the scourge of heroin and an onslaught of commercialism destroy their fragile culture The award winning ‘Patrick Kavanagh – No Man’s Fool’ was a celebration from the poet’s centenary. The film was financed by RTE as well as the Irish Film Panel and earned ‘Greatest Documentary’ on the 2005 Boston Film Celebration. This year 2010 Sé directed a documentary in famous animator Jimmy Murakami which focussed about his childhood when Jimmy alongside his family in Tule Lake concentration camp following Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. ‘Jimmy Murakami – Non Alien premiered in the Dublin Film Festival and was runner up in the target audience prize. It received best doc in the Sacramento Film Event. Sé most recent film ‘John Ford – Thinking the Quiet Guy’ focussed on John Ford’s 20 year search to create his most personal film. Maureen O’Hara, Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovicz and Jim Sheridan had been contributors. It experienced a theatrical launch in Ireland and screened in celebrations world-wide and was cited as greatest Western Documentary for the AFI Greatest of Europe time of year. It’s most exclusive screening is at MoMa where it had been introduced from the narrator from the film Gabriel Byrne.
