“B” acting professional Stephen McNally forsook a thriving profession like a practicing lawyer in the past due 1930s when he made a decision to change gears and pursue performing, which he did avidly. He started his profession on stage using his actual name of Horace McNally and gained minor position in World Battle II-era movies as both a hero and weighty. In 1946 his profession took a lift when he transformed his stage name to Stephen McNally and carved out a distinct segment as both villains and “difficult man” heroes. He was notably despicable in the Jane Wyman starrer Johnny Belinda (1948) and in Winchester ’73 (1950) with Wayne Stewart.
