The Team Chiefs were the backing vocal sextet for Glenn Miller’s Army Air Pressure band, usually performing together with lead singer Tex Beneke from 1942 until 1946. The group contains saxophonist and vocalist (Personal) Wayne Lynn Allison (1912-1993); composer/baritone (Corporal) Arthur Malvin (1922-2006) who was simply the nominal innovator; arranger/baritone Expenses Conway (1913-1991) who was simply an original person in The Modernaires; trumpet participant (Sergeant) Steve Steck (1917-1990); his more youthful brother (Personal) Gene (1921-1988); plus composer, vocalist and budding comedian (Corporal) Murray Kane (1915-1986). They documented on V-Discs released from the U.S. Battle Department and may also be noticed on every week coast-to-coast Air Pressure recruitment radio broadcasts. On August 31 1944 they performed live in the Paris Movie theater in London, support Bing Crosby inside a rendition from the ballad “Poinciana”. The Team Chiefs had been disbanded under Beneke’s management in 1946, changed from the ‘Mello-Larks” (a quartet comprising three male and one feminine vocalist).
