Mini Biography

The son of a devoted record collector, Yuji Koseki was always drawn to producing music. While going to Fukushima University or college, he managed to get his hobby to try out harmonica inside a road band. Following university or college, at age 21 Koseki became a member of Columbia Information, where he quickly made up his first traditional piece, “Story from the Bamboo Cutter: (predicated on the fable from the same name, Taketori Monogatari). In 1931 Koseki relocated to the Tokyo branch of the business, Nippon Columbia Information, where he toiled in both traditional and pop songwriting departments. Among his previous film credits was mostly of the Japanese animated movies to survive Globe Battle II, entitled Momotaro: Umi no Shinpei (1945). Later on he scored an even more popular dream film, Mosura (1961), that he helped create the world-famous “Mothra Music”, reprised in a number of later Gojira movies. He’s better kept in mind for songs like this while others he made up at Columbia Information than for his sporadic film work.
