A former stage actor along with a respected movie director of several hit Broadway musicals – included in this “The Ziegfeld Follies” – Edward Lilley found Hollywood to create musicals. He aimed almost twelve of these for Universal; sadly, none of these approached the grade of his Broadway productions, getting mostly low-budget, relatively slapdash affairs offering famous brands The Ritz Brothers, Bob Crosby among others on Universal’s “B” list.
